You can collect all of the honey from a beehive at the honey super; this is the part of the beehive where most of the honey is stored. There are about eight to ten frames in each of the honey supers. Worker bees are the bees that store all the nectar into one of these honeycombs. Once the designated super is full, a beekeeper then extracts the honey from the full honey supers from the beehive. All of this takes place just before winterizing the beehive,
Honey extractors consist of drums that will have a rotating wire basket; this helps with the honey harvesting process. All of the combs that the beekeeper has already uncapped are put in the drum right in the wired basket. Turning the basket is either done manually or with the help of a motor; the beekeeper will decide. By turning the basket, the honey then comes out from the side of the drum and them slowly drains through a spigot.
If that method was too long for you then best read this article and see how the shorter version of extracting honey is done.
What you do first remove the frames.
Make sure you have the right equipment before you think about extracting the honey from the beehive. You have to have the right gear on so that you can keep away from the angry bees and their stingers; you need a veil or a helmet, a bee suit and a pair of gloves. You will need a ton of things like a smoker and a hive tool, a wheel borrow and a trash bag as well. You have to make sure you have all you need before you start extracting the honey from the beehive; make sure to have plywood to cover all empty hive bodies and frame gripper.
You need to take the supers to the area where the honey will be extracted and without the gear, you will not be able to do this. You need to make sure that you take all the frames without irritating the bees; this is how you can avoid stings and getting a honey room full of bees.
Before you remove the first frame, make sure that you already have all of the needed equipment on your or next to you. Not having even one of the needed equipment is going to put you in a bad spot; everything has to be there so that everything will fall right into the plan. The thing about the equipment is that it plays a huge part in bee extracting; stings from bees are not good at all and without the protective gear, you will get a lot of them.
